Fifty Days of Pentecost Devotional Series — Sunday, May 5

Acts 2:21 says: “And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (ESV)

This verse comes at the end of Peter’s sermon on the day of Pentecost. He has been referring to Joel’s prophesy about a great outpouring of spiritual power in the middle of dark moments. ChildHope lives in the hope of the promise that Peter’s sermon proclaims.

This promise fuels our vision for education, transformation and compassion. We believe in the spiritual transformation of children and youth. In Guatemala, we have started a youth Bible club in four of our ChildHope schools. Our goal is for students to learn about God and grow deeper and stronger in their faith before they leave school and pursue a career.

Since 2013 when we first arrived in Guatemala, we have focused most of our evangelism efforts on the younger children, and we have seen God do amazing things. However, in recent months, God has been stirring our hearts for the youth and has also called other missionaries to work along side us and help us launch a new Bible club.

Just last month, we held special youth services at a school with the students who attend the Bible club. During the services, we focused on the importance of forgiveness and how hurting people hurt others. By the last day, we saw their hearts soften and God began to break chains in their lives. They left their hurts at the altar! The greatest testimony of all, was seeing three young girls receive Christ. These three girls have only attended the school for three months.

We are so grateful that God sent us, along with a team of others, to speak life into these girls. Because, like Peter, we believe in the promise that everyone who calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved!

Prayer:  Lord, please transform us by the power of your Spirit and may that same power flow through us to transform the people around us.
