2018 Easter Devotional — March 24

John 11:45-53 (click to view Scripture below)

[For the whole family]

As we get closer to Easter we remember the story of how people were plotting to send Jesus to the cross — they didn’t know He was God and would rise again but we do! The High Priest said something that was a prophecy — he spoke about what would come true. He said that Jesus would die so others wouldn’t perish. That is true! When Jesus died on the cross he paid the price for our sins so we could go to heaven. He died in order to “gather all the children of God who are scattered abroad.” That is what ChildHope does with your help.

ChildHope tells the story of Jesus’ death on the cross and His resurrection to God’s children scattered abroad in Latin America and the Caribbean. I remember once a little boy told me, “God must really love me and my family, for Him to tell people from so far away in the United States to send money to help me go the ChildHope school. He must really love me a lot”

Activity and prayer for the whole family: People were plotting evil against Jesus. Why don’t we plot something for good? Make a plan to tell others about kids in the ChildHope schools. Maybe you could decorate a can and use it to collect money to send a special offering for the children in the ChildHope schools to remind them of God’s love.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for dying on the cross to gather all your children. Bless all the kids in ChildHope schools and help them grow in the knowledge of you.

John 11:45-53 (ESV)

45 Many of the Jews therefore, who had come with Mary and had seen what he did, believed in him, 46 but some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. 47 So the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered the council and said, “What are we to do? For this man performs many signs. 48 If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.” 49 But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all. 50 Nor do you understand that it is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish.” 51 He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,52 and not for the nation only, but also to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. 53 So from that day on they made plans to put him to death.
