2018 Easter Devotional — March 5

Psalm 42:1-7 (click to view Scripture below)

This Psalm expresses the deep longing in our souls for the very real presence of God in our lives. For the Sons of Korah it was so real it was as if they were personally watching a deer panting to reach the flowing stream and drink of the living waters. They could sense the palpable thirst that the deer was experiencing and they related it to their own desire to stand in the presence of God.

For the children that attend our ChildHope schools, there is hope that they too will stand next to the streams of living water and personally experience the presence of the living God. In addition to hope through a strong education, in each school every child is given the opportunity to “Hope in God” and to know that He is our salvation. When a child places their hope in God – it is an amazing sight to watch as they march into the house of God with shouts of joy and songs of praise!

Psalm 42:1-7 (ESV)

Tenants

1As a deer pants for flowing streams,
    so pants my soul for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God,
    for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?
My tears have been my food
    day and night,
while they say to me all the day long,
    “Where is your God?”
These things I remember,
    as I pour out my soul:
how I would go with the throng
    and lead them in procession to the house of God
with glad shouts and songs of praise,
    a multitude keeping festival.

Why are you cast down, O my soul,
    and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
    my salvation and my God.

My soul is cast down within me;
    therefore I remember you
from the land of Jordan and of Hermon,
    from Mount Mizar.
Deep calls to deep
    at the roar of your waterfalls;
all your breakers and your waves
    have gone over me.
